Abstract

In today's economy, organizations must be able to adapt to the ever-changing environment. In an effort to reduce negative outcomes from change and improve working conditions, organizations must have a clear understanding of the world within and organization. This paper will define the key concepts of organizational behavior (OB) and the factors associated with such including organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and organizational learning. Examples relating to ABC Co. will also be provided.

Why has organizational behavior research become so important in recent years? Can such research really add value to the success of an organization? In an effort to understand the importance of such, the paper will define the terms associated with organizational behavior and provide examples of each as they relate to ABC Co. The terms include organizational behavior (OB), organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and efficacy, and organizational learning.

Organizational Behavior

"Organizational behavior, OB for short, is the study of human behavior in organizations.

It is a multidisciplinary field devoted to understanding individual and group behavior, interpersonal processes, and organizational dynamics." (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2005). ABC Co. has implemented various groups within the organization who work to bring everyone together. They have monthly luncheons and gatherings help facilitate communication. They developed bonus and award programs for performance and customer satisfaction. In addition, they are always looking at ways to improve benefits such as vacations, holidays, and 401k. Such efforts are important in limited turnover and ensuring the best ethical practices.

Organizational Culture

"Organizational or corporate culture is the system of shared actions, values, and beliefs that develops within and organization and guides the behavior of its members.
