Ozone Layer Speech Outline
Persuasive Speech Outline
General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience that the "ozone hole" is not caused by man and therefore requires no policy against CFC's.
Central idea: The ozone layer/"hole" is caused by fluct. in the environment and CFC's are little if any of the cause of ozone depletion. CFC's are very heavy, they stay close to the ground and do not affect the stratosphere. Volcano's put out approx 10X more times chlorine than man produces. Ozone Center of WA states: "The 1991 volcanic eruption of Mount Pinatubo led to temporary severe ozone depletion but recent observations have shown that ozone concentrations have returned to pre-Pinatubo levels." The change in the ozone layer is related to seasonal changes. (Cambridge University Professor Dr. Glenn Carver)
Question of Fact
Organizational Pattern: Topical
Introduction: What is Ozone? Ozone is produced when highly energetic solar radiation strikes molecules of oxygen O2 this causes them to split and produce O molecules. They then join with the remaining O2 and produce O3 molecules. These O3 molecules are what are known as Ozone. The "hole" in the ozone layer is not actually a hole it is a thinning of the ozone layer due to seasonal changes.
I. Staying low
a. The weight of CFC's makes it impossible for them to harm the stratosphere. Here are a few examples; air 29, nitrogen 32, CFC's over 100, Hydrogen 2, O2 16.
b. Volcano's spew 289 billion tons of HCL (also an ozone depleting substance, this seems more likely to cause harm to the Ozone Layer. As it is an upward motion of the eruption.
II.Natural Causes
a.Volcano's again: 289 billion tons of HCL compared with 750,000 tons of manmade HCL.
b.It was once thought that the methane gas from the flatulence of cows was the...

The ozone layer/"hole" is caused by fluct?
CFC's are very heavy, they stay close to the ground and do not affect the stratosphere. That is a little bit strange...Volcano's put out approx 10X more times chlorine than man produces. Ozone Center of WA states: "The 1991 volcanic eruption of Mount Pinatubo led to temporary severe ozone depletion but recent observations have shown that ozone concentrations have returned to pre-Pinatubo levels."
