Rape is a real problem. Most people agree rape is horrible. Date rape is also a real problem, but not everyone agrees date rape is horrible. Some people do not even believe that date rape exists. I have real statistics to show you. I want to show you the difference between stranger rape and date rape. I want to persuade you that date is a crime surrounded by myths that cause it to be ignored. I want to show you although all forms of rape, including date rape, are against the law, our laws cannot work if our beliefs do not change. I want to put the rape myths out in the light, and give you a chance to reexamine your beliefs. I want everyone to help end the crime of date rape.

The Rape of the A*P*E*This book, (HOLD UP) I Never Called it Rape deals exclusively with the results of a scientific study done in the late 1980's. This study, The Ms. Project, was funded by The National Institute of Mental Health; and is it the largest scientific study ever done about date rape. This book (HOLD UP) Human Sexuality in a World of Diversity, is a textbook currently in use at Parkside. I took all statistics for my speech from these two books.
