When people succeed, it is because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success?

Success can not be achieved without hard work. However, I disagree with the statement that luck has nothing to do with success. In my opinion, the combination of hard work and luck is the way to success. Some events happen by chance and that can turn upside down one's life and help hi succeed.

Ironically, the best football players are found by their coaches by chance. For example, Diego Maradona played football in his neighbourhood when a football coach noticed him and took him to a training. In that way, one of the best footballers ever, started his career. That was the role of luck. After that one can be very hard-working in order to be at the top. With luck alone nobody can succeed. Again for footballers, it is a matter of chance not to be injured in an important match, but to harm themselves while shaving, for example.

Such was the case with the Brazilian footballer Emerson, who cut his foot with a bottle. Then he missed the World Championship and Brazil became World champion. This time luck has not helped one to succeed.

When someone is studying for an exam, he or she has to be very diligent in the studying process. Never mind how meticulously one has been studying, he can become sick at the day of the exam. In such case, no matter how hard has he worked, he will not be able to do the best of him. On the other hand, if a student has done exercises that are very similar to those on the real test it is again a matter of chance. Why did he or she bought exactly that textbook that has very similar exercises like those on the exam? No one knows. It is simply luck. That will...
