All the food groups that are outlined by the food pyramid are essential to staying healthy. Everyone should pay close attention when eating meals and snacks so that they are sure to consume the right amount of each food group. People who do not take in enough of certain food groups will in turn, fail to take in enough of the recommended amounts of vitamins and nutrients. Many people are unaware of what roles certain foods play in their daily nutrition and may not consume the right amounts each day. I have learned important information in regarding my health while taking this course. I was not aware of much of the information in which we covered during this class. There are a few topics that we touched on that I believe play the biggest role in my life, and are the most important to me as an individual.

The first most important thing that I have learned about my nutritional habits and choices is that I consume much less fiber on a daily basis than I should.

By using the food journal analysis as a guide, I have concluded that for each of the three days in which I recorded my nutritional intake, I failed to take in the minimal amount of fiber suggested.

The EheathMD (1990) stated, "Fiber is important because it has an influence on the digestion process from start to finish: because it demands that food be more thoroughly chewed, fiber slows down the eating process and helps contribute to a feeling of being full, which in turn can help prevent obesity from overeating, fiber makes food more satisfying, probably because the contents of the stomach are bulkier and stay there longer, fiber slows digestion and absorption so that glucose (sugar) in food enters the bloodstream...
