Topic: The African American Sermonic Tradition
*My own point of view.
In "Sermons," five different parts of a sermon are presented. All five parts are still followed and seen in our society today. African American sermons are still very emotional and their religious beliefs have not faded. From the time that slavery was part of our history, till the present, African Americans have never stopped believing in God.
The first part states the disclaimer, in other words the preacher is only preaching what God is saying. By the use of facial expressions and the use of body language, as well as the persuasive tongue used to preach, it almost seems as though something had taken over the individual, as though it may seem that God is in fact the one speaking to the audience.
The second part presented in this piece, states that the main topic spoken comes straight from the bible.

Malcolm XThis leads to believe that the bible is on other words God. If not listening to God, then follow what the bible says, because it's still God's word. Regardless of the matter, God is speaking to his or her firm believers. These two parts are the main focus on my point of view, although the other three parts are also very important, such as the fact that "formulaic body of the sermon." Mainly all five parts make up my argument that no matter what you believe, if you follow/obey any of the five parts, you are still a believer of God and you follow his teachings.
Preachers are merely the puppets that God has. I am not questioning religion however. Everyone has the right to believe what they wish, however for the sake of the paper I will think about the African American's point...
