Introduction

From the moment I choose this assignment I knew exactly what my intentions were in making a video product. I wanted to produce film trailer, which would grab an audience's attention. This would also give me a chance to develop my video production techniques due to the fact that I have concentrated on audio and print in the first year. I started this project on the basis of research into video and editing techniques.

Pre-Production Research

I had to decide whether to use an analogue or digital format for my product therefore I researched both intensively.

Digital Video Recording

The function of a digital VCR, whether as a separate unit from the camera or attached to the camera making a complete unit or camcorder, is to store the electronic impulses that represent the sound and picture created by the camera and microphone in the form of ones and zeros, and rather than as they continuously varying stream of electrons.

The storage for a digital signal is not that much different than for an analogue signal, but in many different ways it is a much simpler signal to record. Despite its simplicity, the digital signal must be recorded in such a manner that the digital impulses may be easily retrieved in as close to the original form as possible. Digital recorders, whether they are recording an audio or the video signal, produce checking and compensating signals designed to correct any errors that may be inadvertently have been recorded. As in analogue equipment, the recorder ability to accurately reproduce the original signal is tied directly to the cost of equipment. In

Before the video and audio signals pass from the camera to the recorder, they are converted into digital equivalents of the original signals. The audio signal is fed either...
