The economic recession has caused many a successful companies to revisit the way they do business. Many companies are finding they need to be more innovative and creative in order to keep their customers happy in the current production and purchasing environments. Best Snacks, Inc. also finds that it is in need of an innovation and creativity boost (University of Phoenix, 2010).
Describe the Situation

Best Snacks finds itself lagging behind its closest competitors in both bringing new products to market and also profit margins. For a number of years, Best Snacks, Inc. had been an industry leader and among the top three snack producers (UOP, 2010).
Increasing production and sales costs coupled with reduced R & D budgets have dropped Best Snacks to the third among the top three (UOP, 2010). Over time, Best Snacks has become lackadaisical in their quest to bring new products to market, to decrease production times and costs and to have creative and innovative marketing strategies. The leadership team has old and new members without consistent communication to their teams in what goals and strategies remain important to the organization.
The organization has hired a new chief executive officer and charged her with the task of creating a new strategic plan that will promote innovation and creativity with new products, processes, services and procedures throughout the organization (UOP, 2010).
