How to Make Homemade Biscuits and Gravy

Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of making homemade biscuits and gravy. Making biscuits from scratch is not as difficult as many people think. There are three critical steps in making homemade biscuits and gravy from scratch: preparation of ingredients, mixing and baking biscuits, and making the gravy.

Years ago women learned from their mothers how to make biscuits from scratch and not from a recipe. Today most people buy biscuits from supermarkets. However; it only takes a few ingredients such as: self rising flour, baking powder, sugar, shortening, and buttermilk to make delicious homemade biscuits. The recipe that is followed is "How to Make Biscuits from Scratch" on website www.ehow.com.

Start with preheating the oven to 375 degrees. Get a large mixing bowl and add 2 cups of self-rising flour, 1 tsp.

baking powder, ½ cup sugar, ¼ cup of shortening and 1 cup of buttermilk. Also, add ¼ cup of flour on a cutting board or a clean counter top. Use spoon to mix ingredients until mixture starts to come together into a dough ball. Place the dough ball onto your floured surface and let it rest for about 5 minutes. When ready, knead dough gently by flatten out the dough ball with your palms and fold it back in on itself. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin, to the thickness of ½ or ¾ inch thick depending on how thick biscuits should be. Grease the baking pan with shortening. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
