Riordan Manufacturing is an industry leader in plastics. One of the most important fundamentals in creating a successful business is having happy, satisfied customers that keep coming back. Improvement and learning can be directed toward better products and services. Team C will identify a process selected for targeted improvement, an As-Is flowchart of the current process, and quality tools that can be used to collect and present data to help Riordan better themselves in the plastic manufacturing business.
Target processThe process improvement plan is focusing on one of the LEAN Manufacturing principles, perfect first-time quality through quest for zero defects, revealing and solving problems at their ultimate source, achieving higher quality and productivity simultaneously, teamwork, worker empowerment. This is a quest for having zero defects by revealing and solving the problems right at the source. By cutting all the wasted time and materials during quality inspection at the end of the production process, efficiency is reached.

Recent developments have led to focus on one particular area of the plastic beverage container molding process. A marked increase in bottle rejects due to fluctuation in finished volume has lead to a heightened level of scrutiny on the process. A recent increase in the level of customer complaints due to the same inconsistency found to be inherent in the volume of the finished product. Our engineers have been directed to implement a new system by which to identify the root of the inconsistency. This will allow for the mitigation of the inconsistent volumes and provide for the most cost effective solution while maintaining the highest...
