There are many different purposes of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Some of which I will write about in this report.

One main purpose of OSHA is to guarantee, as far as possible, safe and healthy working conditions for the American workers. One way to accomplish this purpose is to follow two guidelines: General Standards and the General Duty Clause.

General Standards are measures of safety, made to decrease employees' exposure to dangerous conditions. Some of these standards usually manage all worksites, and other standards address specific industries. The act needs employers to agree with these standards.

General Duty Clause requires that every employer give to each of its employees, employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or severe physical injury. It is supposed to cover serious hazards for which there are no exact standards in place, so that employees are always entitled to a fairly safe workplace.

Because of the numerous deaths caused by mistakes in the construction industry, OSHA has established a purpose. As I wrote earlier, the purpose is that they want to guarantee, as far as possible safe and healthy working conditions for the American workers.
