Leadership comes in a number of different forms but they all are heading toward the same common goal, which is to communicate with people. Some people are silent leaders and simply lead by example, while some are more vocal. Nevertheless, whatever type of leader there is, there is certain criteria that must be met. For example, being a good role model, dependable, and trust worthy, are all qualities that a true leader must possess. However, all leaders have their strengths and weakness.
Delegation - There is a difference between delegation and empowerment. Empowerment relates to larger scale culture change it involves instituting a completely different way of working. Delegation refers to specific decisions. It means letting someone else make decisions you normally make. Simply giving someone tasks to do is not really delegation.
Effective Communication - A good leader always listens actively, asks open questions in an interested voice those not answerable by yes or no.
They thank people for their openness; stressing how much they value it, even if they do not particularly agree with what was said. Leaders point out areas of agreement before jumping on areas of disagreement, which reduces defensiveness by letting the other person know that they agree in part, hence not attacking everything they said. It is a well-known fact that people seek confirmation of their own views, so if they really want other people's views, they do not penalize them for not agreeing.
Being a leader is never an easy task, and only a select few have the ability to lead. Not many people can take an organization, a team, or their local neighborhood and get them to work together toward a single goal. They have to be stern but at the same time sympathetic, they have to be able to delegate power...
