"Characters in great works of literature often fall victim to a combination of their own mistakes and circumstances beyond their control." This quote is saying that characters in literature who made mistakes throughout the book sometimes fall victim to events that even they could not control. I agree with this statement. From every piece of literature that I have read, the victim is usually the victim because of something that he has done or something that he could not control. This quote could be demonstrated by the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.

In Romeo and Juliet, many of the characters fell victim to the factors mentioned in this quote. Many characters associated in the love between Romeo and Juliet had lost family, or have lost their own lives. Romeo and Juliet both fell victim themselves due both their own actions and circumstances. Romeo killed Tybalt in revenge for the murder of Mercutio.

He was then banished due to his own actions. Romeo's banishment and ultimate death could have been prevented by controlling his anger and emotions. In this play, Romeo represents a lover who would do anything for his lover, Juliet.

Juliet is another character in the play who's death could have been prevented by actions of her own and of others. Juliet had gone against her own name and married Romeo. She drank a liquid that caused her to appear dead. Due to her appearance of death, Romeo killed himself because of his love for her. Juliet also took her own life because of the suicide of her lover, Romeo. If Juliet had not taken the potion, ultimately, her and Romeo would not have died. Juliet, in this play, represents a lover who goes to drastic measures to be with the person she loves. She fakes her own death and has a funeral just so she can be with Romeo, the only man she has ever loved.

I agree with the quote stated above. The quote states that in great works of literature, many of the characters fall victim due to their own actions and events that they cannot control. This quote particularly applies to the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. In this play, many of the characters fall victim because of the criteria listed in the quote. Characters such as Romeo and Juliet both died because of results of their own actions and some events that they cannot control. This quote applies to all great works of literature in which there are victims.
