During English in Term 1, we read and studied Shakespeare's Play 'Romeo and Juliet' and watched two film interpretations of it.
As we all know the play is about Romeo, the young heir of the Montagues, and Juliet, the daughter of the house of Capulets, and their love, which defies the hatred between their families. They secretly marry and tragic events follow one after another. At the end of the play, the two warring families make peace as a result of the high price they paid for their feuds.
The most important characters in the Play are Romeo, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, Nurse, Mercutio and Tybalt. Romeo is the son of Montague. I thought the character Romeo was a bit pathetic, though he was good-natured and did not fight unless he had to defend his life. Juliet is the daughter of Capulet. She seemed innocent and obedient to her parents but later became easily influenced by Romeo's love.

Romeo and Juliet, Act I-Scene_3. Lady Capulet and ...Friar Lawrence is a Franciscan priest and he plays a crucial role in the play. He is the person who allows them to be together and his idea lead to the both Romeo's and Juliet's death. The Nurse was like Juliet's surrogate mother, but she did not know what was good for Juliet, but rather encouraged Juliet to do whatever made her happy. Mercutio is Romeo's friend from the court. Mercutio's death was a trigger of the tragic events because when he died from fighting with Tybalt, he blamed it on Romeo who felt the guilt and went to seek revenge from Tybalt. Tybalt is Juliet's cousin. He is important because if he did not kill Mercutio, Romeo would not have sought revenge and therefore would not have been banished.
