If someone were to ask me what I thought should be done in order to bring as much internet access to my country as possible as fast as possible, I would first say that it is not a matter of bringing the people of my country internet access but rather, making internet access affordable and convenient to them. Between the vast number of internet providers in the United States, such as America Online, Earthlink, and MSN, just to name a few, I would be willing to bet that there is not a single location in this country that could not have internet access if they were able to afford to get it. The access to the Internet is there; it is just that it is not necessarily affordable to everyone in the country. So, in my opinion, the real question is how can we make Internet access affordable to as many people as possible as quickly as possible?
First of all, when I discuss "Internet access", I am not simply referring to the ability to get on the Internet.
More so, I am referring to the ability to have everything that is required in order to be able to access the Internet and use it proficiently. So, with that in mind, the basic requirements for getting "online" are: an Internet ready computer with a modem; a means of accessing and connecting to the Internet such as a phone line, cable line, satellite connection, etc.; and a basic knowledge of how to use a computer as well as the internet features you intend to use while you are "online". With that in mind, the first of my three main recommendations would be to get as many Internet capable computers into the elementary school classrooms as possible.
By getting Internet...
