Should High School Football Be Banned?

Football has always been known as a contact sport, but now people are becoming more aware of how dangerous the sport actually is. There has been debate around the country as to whether football should be banned at the high school level. Although there are many dangers to the sport, high school football should not be banned. Banning football at the high school level would be simply "un-American." Yes, there is a risk to playing football, but as technology advances people will find ways to make the game safer, and as people become more aware of there injures, they will also become more aware of how to prevent these injuries.

It's no mystery that football is a very dangerous sport to play, but there has been discussion about whether the sport should be banned at the high school level.

Injuries, such as concussions, have taken over the sport. With all these injuries, many are starting to argue whether football should be banned at the high school level. Many schools are starting to drop football as a sport. For the schools that still have football teams, their participation has dropped dramatically. Since 2008, almost 10,000 fewer students have participated in high school football (Tan). That is the biggest drop in football participation ever. Concussions are taking over high school sports, especially football, and the stats are there to back it up. About 1 in 5 high school athletes will sustain a concussion during the course of a season. 47% of these concussions occur during high school football (Head Case Company). However, concussions are not the only injuries that occur during football. Studies show that 46% of ACL injuries occur during high school football.
