Ever wondered why smoking is so prevalent among teenagers or why a relatively unknown author can suddenly produce a best seller? It all starts from an idea, and the idea is very simple. It is that the best way to understand fashion trends, the recede and the flow of crime waves, or may be even the transformation of unknown books into best sellers, the rise of teenage smoking, the phenomenon of word of mouth, or any mysterious change on our everyday lives is like an epidemics. They spread just as viruses do.

The only difference is in their identification. Viruses are bugs, but these epidemics are known as trends- social trends. A social trend is a pattern in which the entire society is affected. They may be minor, but their influence is but massive. Hong Kong today, is largely influenced by such trends. Some major ones include the social status of women, substance abuse, and cyber friends, immigration.

Summer jobs, and much more.

Today, women movement in Hong Kong is as lively as ever, and is more focused and more pragmatic towards the advancements of women's rights. From a time when women were customarily associated with household work only, today they do everything that men do. The trend today is men and women having the same social standing and the discrimination based on sex does not exist. Distinction makes way for equality.
