Has anyone here ever flown in an airplane? Were you ever nervous? Well I want to tell you about Southwest Airlines. The other week I interviewed a nice lady named Emily Patrice, who is a travel agent with Martin's Travel Company. I asked her some questions on Southwest Airlines. The conversation went on about Southwest's mission statement. They talk about their values in the company's statement. "The Mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of customer service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and the company's spirit." I think this a very strong statement don't you agree? This Mission describes the company's workforce, and how their customers are very important.
When talking with Ms. Emily Patrice, the travel agent, I asked about the training the company offered, when hiring their employees. I thought this was interesting, that the employees get their training from Career Development Services and the Virtual University at Southwest Airlines' University for the People.
This is a school for the employees that offer leadership classes, software training, career workshops, and some electives that are available to all of the employees. I researched on the web about the Leadership training; it states that it is also something that "The University delivers to all leadership within the organization." (www.clomedia.com) Just in the last year, more than 10,000 participants attended training from the University for People.
I asked about if people worry about flying because of 9/11. I also asked about how it affected the employees & the customers. Honestly it has not really bothered them as much.
