Zadco was initiated in 1977 to develop and operate the offshore Zakum fields. After years of continuous efforts the first shipment of crude oil was exported in 1983. Upper Zakum , Umm Al Dalkh and Satah field make up the Zakum feild. These fields are located 84kms,25 kms and 200kms respectively off the coast of Abu Dhabi. The Upper Zakum offshore field can accommodate more than 550 personnel which makes it one of the largest offshore living structures in the world.

The intranet, policies, technical and operating standards make up the knowledge management of Zadco. The intranet also has knowledge sharing boards (KBS) enable the employees working in different department to have access to information. Zadco has more than 30 different nationalities which makes the working environment enriched with various cultural experiences.

As Zadco is majorly owned by the Abu Dhabi government emiratization is one of their major goal. The term emiratization stands for developing and teaching the UAE nationals to include them in most of the ongoing projects within the UAE. On a regular basis new graduates are hired or taken as trainees and the HR devises a development plan based on their qualification. They are sent for different seminars or training on software like MAXIMO or SAP.
