Life can seam so horrible at times. Sometimes you just don't think you can even go on anymore. That's how life was for Andy in the novel Tears of a Tiger by Sharon M. Draper. Same for Ivan in the novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich but he chose to deal with it different than Andy did. Tears of a Tiger is about Andy Jackson a teenager that decided to drink and drive and ends up killing his best friend Robert Washington. He was so depressed that he killed himself. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is about a man that was put into the Soviet work camps for tyranny and had to struggle everyday to stay alive. The themes of these novels are very different. The theme in Tears of a Tiger is no matter how horrible life may seem, suicide isn't the way out because it not only hurts you, but also, all your friends and family.

The theme in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is in every situation good or bad, you should always try and make the best of it. The novels themes differ in how the characters live and how each story ends. Tears of a Tiger Andy kills himself, where Ivan is satisfied with how the day went and keeps on going. Another thing that shows how different these themes are is in Ivan story he never gave up and always tried to find the good in something and his day ended ok. In Andy's story he never found the good in anything and started to just give up on life.
