De Oplossing?
Veel mensen vragen zich af of de doodstraf de oplossing is, en waarvoor is de doodstraf de oplossing? Als je naar Amerika kijkt, waar de doodstraf nog steeds wordt uitgevoerd, zie je dat er nog steeds veel misdrijven worden gepleegd.
De doodstraf heeft dus niet de afschrikkende werking die hij eigenlijk wel zou moeten hebben. Maar de doodstraf is goedkoper dan levenslange gevangenisstraf.
Welke argumenten wegen zwaarder en is het nodig om de doodstraf weer in te voeren in Nederland om het criminaliteitscijfer naar beneden te brengen?
Is de doodstraf de oplossing?
Naar aanleiding van een artikel uit de Nieuwe Revu is de discussie over de herinvoering van de doodstraf in Nederland weer opgelaaid.
Hillebrand Nawijn, minister van vreemdelingenzaken en integratie, heeft in dit desbetreffende artikel uit de Nieuwe Revu zijn mening over de doodstraf gegeven: "als je zelf bewust het risico neemt om te moorden en dan daadwerkelijk een leven neemt, ben ik voor een navenante straf- de doodstraf."*
Veel mensen vatten deze uitspraak op als een wetsvoorstel waar volgens Nawijn helemaal geen sprake van was, veel politici hebben toch een uitspraak hierover gedaan en waren het er bijna allemaal over eens dat de doodstraf een "stap terug is in de beschaving"** is.
In Nederland is de doodstraf pas afgeschaft in 1991, nu blijkt het dat twee op de vijf Nederlanders voor de herinvoering van de doodstraf is, hoe zou dit komen?
De doodstraf werd in de loop der eeuwen steeds meer gebruikt naarmate de rechtshandhaving steeds meer een overheidstaak werd, de voornaamste reden om vroeger de doodstraf toe te passen was de bloedwraak.
Meestal werd de doodstraf gegeven bij misdrijven als moord, echtbreuk, toverij en zeldzamer diefstal, tegenwoordig zijn er sprake van misdrijven als zware staatsmisdrijven, moord en verkrachting.
