We see in the film 'A Man for all Seasons' the character Thomas More refuses to go against his conscience and as a result is charged with treason which the penalty is death by beheading. He refuses to acknowledge King Henry as the Head of the England church. He is also against the divorcing of the King from his first wife and ends up resigning from his position as Lord Chancellor of England.

Thomas Aquinas also says that if a human law is unjust either by not being for the general good of the people or by not following the Divine law then it is not binding to the person. He says 'we ought to obey God rather than obey man'
