There are so many types of music around the world that have so many different meanings to so many different people. Some music can be an inspiration to some people, and that same music can be depressing, irritating, or just plain boring to someone else. Music is a great way of expressing your personal feelings and ideas. I listen to all types of music but my personal favorite is rap. Eminem is probably my favorite rapper for many different reasons.

I enjoy listening to Eminem more than anyone else because he speaks his mind, no matter how harsh it is. If people don't like what he has to say, they don't have to listen to it. In his music he talks about his life, the things he went through, and what he had to do to get where he is today. Since he talks about things that are real to him, a lot of people can relate to what he has to say.

Some people have actually gone through the things he has, others can understand because of the way he tells his story. He talks about his ex wife Kim, who cheated on him while they were married. He actually hit the guy he saw her kissing and was arrested. Although this may not have been the best way to deal with the situation, many people would have done the same thing. He's a human, and makes mistakes, just like the rest of us. He was charged with a felony, and is now on probation. The threat of going to jail made him shape up really quick, he stopped drinking so much, and stopped doing drugs. Eminem and Kim have a daughter together name Hailie Jade. He talks about how much he loves her and what he had to go through to get joint custody of her. In "Hailie's Song" he says "There's no more reason to cry no more. I got my baby; baby the only lady that I adore (Hailie)." He's saying that life isn't so bad now that he can be with his daughter. I don't know personally, but he seems like he is a good father. He said how he doesn't let his daughter listen to the explicit versions of his songs because of his language. Instead she can hear her daddy's music in the edited version. That makes him seem pretty responsible.

A lot of his songs cause a lot of controversy because of the things he says. In some of his songs he had talked about killing his now ex-wife Kim. I don't think he actually considered doing this, I just think it was his way of expressing his anger about what happened between the two of them. Isn't that what music is, a way of expressing yourself? He also bashes a lot of artists and people he doesn't like which I don't think is the best way of going about it, but it's his music, and his choice. In his song "Without Me" he sings "Chris Kirkpatrick you can get your ass kicked, worse than them little Limp Bizkit bastards, and Moby, you can get stomped by Obie, you 36 year old bald headed fag blow me. You don't know me, you're too old let go its over, nobody listens to techno..." This causes a lot of anger from those artists and others who like those artists. But I also have a lot of respect for him because although there are so many people that don't like him, or who disagree with what he says and believes in, he doesn't stop writing his music. He doesn't change his style to fit others expectations. He stays true to himself.

I like Eminem's music more than anyone else because his music is so fun to listen to. The rhythm and beats are so upbeat and just get me pumped up. Any song that has a good beat will keep a persons attention longer than a song that doesn't. Beats are one of the most important factors in a song. If I'm tired or just don't want to do anything, all I have to do is put in one of Eminem's CD's and I'm up and ready to go. It gives me so much energy. I can listen to any of his 3 CD's because I love just about every song on all of them. I can't say that about any other artist. I know the words to most of his songs and have a blast singing along, especially when I'm driving because it keeps me awake when I'm driving late and I'm tired. Music also helps me when I'm doing homework or writing a paper, because it helps relieve some of the stress that goes along with all the school work. Music lets me escape to a world where you have no cares or worries, at least for a little while.

I went to the Anger Management Tour, which was Eminem's tour for 2002, and it was the best concert I have ever been to. He the most entertaining artist out there and the show was just so exciting. I was singing and screaming so loud that I left there with no voice. And the stage setup was awesome. It was first set up like a carnival, and Eminem came down on the Ferris wheel. And they changed the set so often to keep everyone's attention, not that they needed to, but it definitely was more entertaining. And his music videos are much more fun to watch then any other artists, in my opinion. He has very creative ideas to keep the audience interested, even if there not a fan. My dad doesn't like Eminem but he has told me a couple times how he found himself watching his videos, and even listening to his songs on the radio. That's what makes him so good; he gets people that don't even like him to listen to him.

When people say music causes people to be violent or use foul language, I think it's an excuse. There are so many other ways besides music that people can hear and see things that are much worse than what artist put in their music. People should have common sense and upbringing to know that musicians are joking around. Music is a way to have fun. In Eminem's song "Who Knew" he sings "Get aware, wake up, get a sense of humor. Quit tryin to censor music, this is for your kid's amusement (The kids!) But don't blame me when lil' Eric jumps off of the terrace You shoulda been watchin him - apparently you ain't parents." He says people need to stop taking music so seriously. Music is here for people to have a good time. Parents need to get involved in their children's lives, find out what they're doing, and what is going on in their lives. They need to explain to them that they shouldn't take violence in music or on TV as reality and explain to them that it is just for fun and they shouldn't try to use it as an example for they way they should act. Music never cause me to behave badly, it didn't influence me in a bad way. I knew better. If all parents took the time to get involved in their kids lives, the world would be a better place.

Although I may not agree with everything Eminem has to say, there is a lot I do agree with and understand, and I can't get enough of him. He is always true to himself and what he believes in. I respect that everyone has different opinion of music and artists. There are so many different types and styles of music out there and I doubt there is a person out there who likes it all but it all means something special to someone. Music lets people express themselves in their own ways and that's what makes it so special and so important in people's lives. That's what Eminem does for me.
