Jim Carrey and Joe Pesci both star in humorous courtroom comedies. They use their humor to win their cases and bring many laughs to their audience. Jim Carrey plays the sucessful lawyer, Fletcher Reed, in the movie Liar Liar. He is in a situation wished upon him by his neglected son, Max, in which he cannot lie- and therefore he cannot win his case in the usual manner. It is not just any simple, run-of-the-mill case; he must convince a judge that Virginia Cole, who cheats on her husband, should receive half of all his assets, which would make her a multi-millionaire. The catch is that she signed a prenuptial agreement, stating that she would not receive any money if she were to cheat on her husband. Joe Pesci, who plays Vincent LaGuardia Gambini in My Cousin Vinny is in a rather trying situation himself. He has only been a lawyer for six weeks, and he passed his bar exam after six tries.

He has only worked on personal injury cases, yet he is presented with the case of his cousin, Bill Gambini, and Bill's friend, Stan Rothenstein, who are charged,respectively, with murder in the first degree, and accessory to murder in the first degree. All they did was accidentally steal a can of tuna, and they confessed without knowing what exactly they were confessing to, until it was too late. It is obvious that these two movies share a weirdness of the situation at hand, but that is not all that they share. Throughout the movies, the emotions of a character beloved to the main character play a huge role.
