Which level is Homer's Troy and why?

Homer described a tragic battle between the Greeks and the Trojans. According to the Iliad, the battle was supposedly fought over the most beautiful women Helen. Paris, the youngest son of the Trojan king, kidnapped Helen when he and his older brother Hector were attempting to make peace with the greeks. The battle between the two rivals lasted for approximately 10 years. Archaeologists believe that homer was a entertainer, and the iliad was a recited song that he would tell to an audience as a form of entertainment, however they were not written down until hundreds of years after the great battle between the Greeks and Trojans.

In 1870 Heinrich Schliemann began the excavation at the site of Troy. Schliemann was a amateur archeologist from Germany. Schliemann followed the geographical clues in the 'Iliad' and began excavating North West Turkey. Schliemann excavated the site of Troy for many years and uncovered 7 of the 9 levels found at Troy.

Schliemann believed that Homer's troy was level two.

Manford Korfmann concluded that in the Late Bronze Age, the centuries around the time of the legendary Trojan War, Troy was a prosperous and powerful center of commerce, in part because it could control shipping and collect duties on all goods passing through the black sea and the Asia minor. Korfmann believed that the wealth and control that troy had made it a tempting target for invaders from Greece. archeologist believe that Homer's troy took place at either level 6 or level 7a. Most archeologist are agreeable on level 7a.
