o Explain urban growth trends in the world's poorest countries. What causes urbanization in poor countries?Urban growth will continue especially in the poorer countries because these people cannot afford the medicines to stop having children or be educated on how to avoid getting pregnant. The more people there are then they will move to a more urban society. "The report warns, however, that if unaddressed the growth of urbanization will mean growth in slums and poverty" (Vidal, 2007). This can also lead to people migrating to wealthier regions. Too many people in poorer countries cause urbanization because there is little room, fewer medical supplies, and fewer jobs.

o Choose a major city in a poor, developing country and research how urbanization has occurred in this city. Try search terms such as "history of urbanization in (name of city)."Japan has a number of cities that have experienced urbanization like Tokyo. "Many cities had to carry out urbanization under major hardships such as earthquakes and war damages" (Yomiuri, 2002). The Kanto earthquake in 1923 destroyed much of the improvements made in the development of urban land. Tokyo took a long time to recover from this earthquake and had to start the urban areas over. Tokyo has rebuilt their land twice, once after the earthquake and another time after the Tokyo air raid.

o Discuss the statistical data and the implications of the urbanization of your chosen city.

Urbanization will continue to rise in Tokyo because babies are born, people live longer, and they lead healthier lives which will lead to more urbanization. People will always want to move from one place to another searching for the better life and in this process they will urbanize more land.
