'The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the federal agency responsible for enforcing most federal antidiscrimination laws (Cheeseman, 2004)." Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. produces plastic injection moldings from each of their locations across the United States, Hangzhou and China. An international corporation employing over 500 individuals can be faced with job discrimination at any level. Race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion and disability are common forms of job discrimination that an employer must protect its employees from at all cost.

"Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was primarily enacted to prohibit employment discrimination based on race, color, and national origin (Cheeseman, 2004)." Riordan Manufacturing had a diverse group of individuals who represent the organization. Racial discrimination refers to discrimination against an individual because they are Black, Caucasian, Asian, or Native American. Color discrimination is discriminating against an individual based on the color of their skin. "National origin refers to the country of a person's ancestors or cultural characteristics (Cheeseman, 2004)."

National origin is a major concern for Riordan Manufacturing because they are an international organization dealing in foreign countries.

Discrimination against an individual's sex is another type of discrimination that concerns Riordan Manufacturing. Sexual discrimination protects both men and women; however, is primarily found that discrimination against women occurs more often. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act was enacted in 1978 to forbid employers from discriminating against women who become pregnant (Cheeseman, 2004). Sexual harassment is also considered to be sexual discrimination. Managers or supervisors cannot refuse to hire or promote an individual if he or she refuses to have sex with them. Lewd remarks, touching, intimidation or verbal sexual conduct is considered sexual harassment and violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (Cheeseman, 2004).
