Are viruses alive? I, after much research, do not believe that viruses are alive. I have come to this conclusion, because viruses do not have cells, they do not carry out respiration in any way, they do not grow, and they do not develop.

Viruses are not made of any cells. The cell is the basic unit of life, according to the cell theory. An organism is any thing that posses all the characteristics of life. So, then viruses are not living. Viruses do not carry out respiration in any way. Respiration is one of the characteristics of life. Something has to have all the characteristics of life to be considered living.

Viruses do not grow in any way.Growth is one of the characteristics of life. If something does not have all the characteristics of life, then it should not be considered living.

Viruses do not develop in any way.

Development is one of the characteristics of life. Something has to have all the characteristics of life to be considered living.

In conclusion, viruses are not alive because the do not consist of cells, carry out respiration, grow, or develop. I do not think that viruses are alive.
