War, might be good for absolutely nothing, but what does it mean? What exactly is war? The reason I am doing this project on war is because I believe a lot of people see war in different ways. And many may define the word war and several different ways. We hear it everyday. Kids play it on the playground. We hear it on the news every second. But what is war?
The dictionary defines war as armed conflict, between nations; hostility or struggle. What we hear on the news is war of armed conflicts, between nations. The war some kids might play is only war meaning hostility or struggle.
Some synonyms of the word war meaning relatively the same thing are: battle, bloodshed, conflict, contention, contest, enmity, fighting, hostility, police action, strife, strike, struggle, attack, and combat.
Some antonyms of the word war are: peace, agree, harmonize, make peace, make up, reconcile compromise, cooperate, and surrender.
There are many different kinds of wars. There is a civil war which is a war between different sections or parties of the same country or nation. There is a holy war which is a crusade; an expedition carried on by Christians against the Saracens in the Holy Land, in the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth centuries, for the possession of the holy places. And there is public war which is a war between independent sovereign states. But there all war, F. W. Robertson once said "Men will ever distinguish war from mere bloodshed".
In my research paper war, will mean armed conflict, between nations; hostility or struggle. But will also: battle, bloodshed, conflict, contention, contest, enmity, fighting, hostility, police action, strife, strike, struggle, attack, and combat. Because in my dictionary war is war.
War
You're off to a good start in your research paper. It's important to define your topic before starting your paper and you've obviously spent some time doing that. War is something I wish we could do away with, but unfortunately that seems an unrealistic hope. As long as there are tyrants who try to impose their totalitarian beliefs on others, there will be the need to defend oneself and one's country. Sadly, that defense must sometimes be by force of arms if freedom is to be safeguarded.
