Furthering your education is a Plus

General purpose: To persuade

Specific purpose: To persuade students and teenagers to further their education after high

school.

Central idea: By furthering education after high school people are less likely to get

Pregnant as teens or before marriage, gets put on welfare, and are more likely to make better pay.

INTRODUCTION

1. Attention material

A. Two brothers Ellis and Kidd both graduated from high school.

B. After high school Ellis went on to college and Kidd decided to get a minimum wage paying job, while looking for a companion.

C. Ellis not only thought of himself but his future and what would be best for him in life. All Kidd wanted to do was marry a rich woman and depend on her.

D. Two years after high school Ellis was still in college studying secondary education. On the other hand Kidd had gotten his girlfriend pregnant, got married, been divorced, and was supporting his daughter on welfare.

E. Ellis went on to graduate from college, become a secondary teacher, get married, and has an ideal family.

2. Orienting material

A. Do to student loans, grants, and scholarships anyone who sets their mind to it can go to college.

B. By staying in school and getting a steady job we can reduce the amount of money the government spends on welfare for people who have no education.

1. Not furthering education is causing more families and children to be put on welfare

A. Approximately five million families and almost ten million children are trapped in poverty, hurting them more than helping them.

B. Divorced, single, or teen parents take in most welfare.

C. And most single and teen parents are people...
