Women in India

India is a good example of a progressive and vast culture in the world. It is said that word 'mother' (i.e. 'aai' in Marathi, 'maa' in Hindi) is of great significance to the citizens of India. Be it any person, the most important person he worships is his mother after all the Gods and Goddesses. There were times in the past when women were considered to be equals. But the truth is that women have always been rated second in almost all respects in modern India.

Today women do not have any protection; be it social or political or personal. They are still treated badly in rural areas where the husbands return home drunk and beat up their wives. The other countries look up to our nation's way of treating the women and make changes in their way of life to respect women. The western countries keep our country as an inspiration and have started treating the women in a better way.

On the other hand in India the way of treating a woman is getting degraded day by day.

The 4th most common crime against women in India is rape. In the 2013 annual report by the NCBR (National Crime Records Bureau), 24923 rape cases were registered across India in 2012. Out of these, 24,470 rapes were committed by relative or neighbor; concluding that, the victim knew the accused rapist in almost 98% of the cases. PM Narendra Modi addressed the people of India on Independence Day and said that the spate of rape cases has shamed India.
