Workplace Observation

Every organization has their unique organizational culture and behavior. Even though they are all different in their own way, most organizations perform well. Humans are a perfect example. Everybody looks different but yet is still so much alike. The communication flows differently in every. The Diversity issues are usually the same in factories along with the dress and language.

How Communication Flows

The communication in my organization in my opinion flows poorly. I believe there is strong communication between the line employees, frontline managers, and the middle-level managers within my organization. There is a breaking point between the middle-level managers and the top-level managers. Sometimes I find it difficult to communicate with some of the top-level managers. A great deal of the time they do not really want to hear what I am talking about. Most of the communication from the top-level management and the middle-level management goes through email.

I believe email is highly overused. The production manager once told me email is the best way to communicate because they have a record showing it was communicated.

Just recently my organization opened up another way of communication. It is an instant messenger called "Sametime" developed by Lotus. I have found Sametime to be a very hand tool of communication. I know longer have to use post it notes to remember to tell someone something. I usually just send an instant message and the message pops right up on their computer for the next time he or she is at his or her desk.

Dress and Language

The dress and language within my organization is a typical factory setting. The top-level and middle-level managers are required to wear dress pants and shirts with colures. We look at is as a way to gain respect for the new employees.
