World War One was Inevitable

Industrialization created the great powers of Great Britain, France, Germany, the United States, Russia, and Japan. Competition for resources coupled with nationalism and an unstable balance-of-power structure created the international tension, which resulted in the First World War. World War I also called the First World War and, prior to World War II, the Great War and the War to End All Wars, was an event that changed nearly every aspect of life in the western world and created the modern world. From 1914 to 1918, the world was devastated and torn apart by a war, which took the lives of citizens as well as militants. The war introduced technological innovation to the battlefield. Some people believe that World War One was inevitable and others believe that World War One could have been prevented through the use of diplomatic negotiations. US president Woodrow Wilson believed that war could be prevented through the implementation of his fourteen points.

Wilson wanted to remove the causes of war. He saw war as a result of the tensions created by secret diplomacy, the problems of the treatment of minorities and the autocratic manner in which a small elite managed the world's foreign affairs. I believe that World War One was inevitable due to industrialization and the desire each country had to become supreme. There are three points, which make World War One inevitable. Firstly, relationships between the nations of the world were dramatically altered by the Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth century. Secondly, there was a growing desire by ethnic populations within the larger countries to become independent nations. Lastly, Colonies around the world were a valuable asset for supporting the host country's economy. The great European powers needed raw materials and outlets for their goods.
