QUESTION 1:

In your opinion what are the most important aspects of Zara's approach to information technology? Are these approaches applicable and appropriate anywhere? Explain your answer.

The most important aspects of Zara's approach to information technology are the point of sale (POS) system and personal digital assistants (PDAs). The POS system is as a computerized network operated by a main computer and linked to several checkout terminals (www://entrepreneur.com/encyclopedia/point-of-sale-pos-system) while PDAs can be defined as a mobile device that functions as a personal information manager and can be connect to internet. These approaches are not applicable and appropriate anywhere because Zara used a unique system which is using Disk Operating System (DOS) compared to other Operating System (OS) like Windows, Mac, UNIX, Linux and etc.

Besides, this system is standalone and accounting software for itself. For example, they just need a couple of disks, modem and telephone line to run their business.

Furthermore, Zara's Distribution Centers (DCs) is not relied on a great deal of automation and computerization because it has to used man power to do some of the works. For example, workers should take clothes off from automated conveyor belts. After that, packing the clothes and sent them to the store. Moreover, Zara feels that their company's operation were unique enough that commercial packages would be suitable to them because of two main reasons which are they were not configured for picking small order and delivery to customers and it is...
