Wrong author name in title
I am sorry, I wrote the wrong author name in the title. Fumiko Enchi wrote "Masks" another Japanese Literature book that I wrote an essay on. The author of "Kitchen" is in fact, Yoshimoto Banana. I wonderful japanese novelist who I would recommend.- 28/04/2004

Clever and Accessable, yet true and poignant
Very clever essay. How very true. I think it would be stronger if there was a link or something so that I could see the picture referred to but I can imagine it, good use of detail to give me the picture. Language is relaxed and easy going bringing strong ideas in an accessable way to a large audience.- 06/12/2003
