  • Well...

I thought it was a very well written paper, even though I don't agree with much of any of it. I don't believe in a god, so I don't really feel that there is any moral absolute that makes abortion "wrong". It should not be used as a form of birth control(that is simply irresponsible). Up until partway through the 2nd trimester, it is no larger than a centimeter, and isn't even conscious as a human being. It is tissue. Sure we may be taking the future lawyers or doctors, but with the likely economic and social conditions it would be born into (especially in teens, since they have the highest pregnancy rates), they would be more likely to join the Welfare Masses than any sort of Major professional position. I'm not saying that that is any better, I'm just saying that the "future doctor" comment is a moot point attempting to appeal to idealist emotions."There are many successful single parents, and courts tend to insure that the father helps financially in taking care of the child". That's nice and all, but what if the father is just as incapable of of supporting the child as the mother? It's easy to say "Just say no", but denying human nature is not so easy, unless an unnatural amount of guilt and aversion towards it has been applied since youth. There is no data to support the "many successful single parents" claim. This essay tends to simply appeal to the emotions of the like-minded. It has some interesting viewpoints, but the 'facts' are limited and interpretive, and there is alot of leaded language that really doesn't justify much. Saying that the biblical God (which I am inferring is the one in reference) disdains killing is like saying that Hitler disdained prejudice. BibleGod slew the lives the entire planet, as well as countless millions from spite and a whim. I believe that there is a little too much "do as I say, not as I do" going on. This appeal to religious "morality" is shallow and emotive, with no real "facts".
