    your essay is very good. The word processsing program you are probably talking about is Microsoft's Word. Microsoft puts all those features in its application because they dont want any competition with Desktop publishing software. Even though Word does do a lot, it doesnt do that much, when you look an application such as Pagemaker 6.5.
