Abortion is one of the most controversial topics of our times. Many people see it as an irresponsible and immoral solution to a serious problem. However, there are many aspects people need to consider before making such opinions.

It is common misconception that the only women who have abortions are reckless, promiscuous, and irresponsible. That is from the truth. Accidents happen to all types of people regardless of their age, race, class and gender. Even the most well prepared and protected can make a mistake. Unwanted pregnancy is a problem that each woman should deal with in her own way. Not every person is willing or able to make certain sacrifices.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, abortion rates are highest for women in their early 20s and lowest for those at the beginning and end of their reproductive years. Unmarried women obtain by far the most abortions and are much more likely to terminate a pregnancy than married women.

There are several reasons why women choose to get an abortion. The most common reason is fear. They know they are not financially or emotionally ready for the responsibility of a child and are unable to handle the guilt of giving the child up for adoption. Family members, significant others and friends also interfere and add pressure on the "mothers" decision. They may convince them of the hassles and sacrifices that will have to be made. Older women that already have children chose abortion because they do not wish to have another one or can not afford it.

The most necessary need for abortion is in a case where we see incest or rape victims. Having a child under these circumstances is traumatic for not only the mother but also can result in incurable illnesses within the child...
