Abstract

I chose to write about ADHD because my brother has it and I believe I may have but went undiagnosed. When I was younger ADHD was rarely heard of, and sometimes it can be a problem for both of us. This article is an informative piece, and I hope I've shown what ADHD is, what the signs, symptoms, and different types are, as well as the ways it can be treated medically or way the symptoms can be lessened in the work place. Though some may not agree, it is important to know even a little about ADHD because research shows it has a strong genetic link and can run in families. That family could be yours.

Have you ever noticed while at work there's always that one co-worker who can never sit still, or the one who does sit still but often loses interest and can barely tell you what the discussion topic is? One possible option is that co-worker may have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD.

What is ADHD? What causes ADHD? What are the treatment options, and can the symptoms be lessened in the work place? These are all answers I plan to find out.

What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

ADHD is neurological disorder that becomes noticeable in some children in the preschool or early school years. It shows itself with symptoms like moodiness, poor impulse control, hyperactivity, distractibility, and forgetfulness. When a child has ADHD, it is difficult to pay attention. Based on studies, it is believed that between 3 and 5 percent of children have ADHD which is about 2 million children in the United States alone.
