Adolf Hitler ruled Germany as dictator from 1933-1945. He turned Germany into a powerful war machine and provoked World War II in 1939. Hitler?s soldiers and armed forces conquered most of Europe before they were defeated in 1945. Hitler, the Nazi ruler, planned to wipe out the entire Jewish population as part of his plan to conquer the world. By the end of the war, 1945, the Nazi?s had killed about six million Jewish men, women, and children. That was over two-thirds of the Jews in Europe.

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, in Braunau, Austria, a small town across the Inn River from Germany. Alois Hitler, Adolf?s father, was 51 when Adolf was born. Klara Polzl, Adolf?s mother, was only 28 when Adolf was born. Adolf was the fourth child of the third marriage of Alois Hitler.

When Adolf was six years old, his father retired and moved near Linz, Austria.

This was when Adolf started going to elementary school. Adolf was a good student in elementary school, but a poor student in high school. Alois, his father, wanted Adolf to be a civil servant, but Adolf wanted to be an artist.

In 1903, Adolf?s father died. Two and a half years later, Adolf dropped out of high school. He then went to live with his mother where all he did was daydream, draw pictures, and read books. Adolf did not have to work; his mother owned some land where Adolf?s only work was his daily chores.

In 1907, Hitler moved to Vienna, the capital of Austria-Hungary, due to his mother?s death. Adolf wanted to be an art student and join the Art Academy, but he failed the exams. Adolf has some income from the money his mother left and he also inherited some money from...
