Against Affirmative Action

For many years, colleges relied on the 1978 Supreme Court ruling to justify their affirmative action programs, but in recent years, that affirmative action standard from that ruling has been chipped slowly away by lawsuits; in addition, the public opinion of affirmative action has become increasingly hostile. Despite this trend, affirmative action still exists in today's colleges. I find it extreamly irritating that I may not get into a college that I am completely qualified for because some nitwit who barely passed high school is the 'right' minority.

Supporters claim affirmative action to either 'make up for' previous wrongs or to end discrimination, making college admission equal for everyone. But the idea of affirmative action itself is discriminatory. Keeping affirmative action recognizes that there is a difference between races and discriminates against those that aren't of a certain minority. Colleges claim to seek 'diversity.' But what good is diversity without justice?

If there isn't a difference between blacks and whites, then why do blacks get a boost into college? To me this says that blacks aren't capable of getting themselves into college without a crutch. It says that blacks are unequal to whites, and therefor need a crutch. We all know this is untrue; any black american is capable of doing anything a white american can. The only reason there are more whites in college is because they are have better schooling before college; that is the root of the problem. So change the schools. Allowing less qualified students to enter college will not help them. They are not prepared for the rigors of whatever college they got into because they did not do the work in high school, thus they would do worse in college and likely drop out...
