Santiago has many good qualities that has evoked feelings about him in me. Let us see what they are.

I admire him because :

1. He was brave enough to tell his father his real dream of travelling to other places other than his home and discovering" the castles in the towns" and would like to "see their land and see how they live". He does not give in easily to others thoughts and pressure given to him by others, no matter how great the pressure is.

2. He was respectful to the elderly and still upholds his father's teachings although he is far away from him. He hoped that the old man "would leave him alone" after he gave him his bottle when he(the old man) said he was thirsty. Even after that when the old man persisted on talking to him and "asked him what book he was reading", he still held out the book to him although he was quite irritated.

He is not hypocritical and will not do things that he knows is wrong.

3. He persevered on after setbacks. When his 'friend' from Africa took off with his money when he(his 'friend') had a chance to do so, although he wanted to turn back at first because he thought he was "sad and alone" when he had sold all his sheep and had all his money stolen, as he thought that people would only "welcome me(him)" when he was still a shepherd and still had money. He changed his mind after thinking about this phrase that the old man once said to him: When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it, thereafter, when he asked Urim and Thummim for answers, he decided to persevere on.
