Alexander Hamilton Biography

Alexander Hamilton, (1757-1804), is a very important man in the history of America. He is best known for his political help in the money issues of government after the American Revolution and he is also well known for being the main writer of The Federalist Papers, a document that successfully gained many followers for the Constitution during the ratification of the Constitution. The document had said many good points of having a strong central government, and had said many of the bad points of the Articles of Confederation that had a weak government. Without Hamilton's help in the government, America would go astray.

Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1757 on the West Indian island of Nevis. He was the illegitimate son of James Hamilton, a Scottish merchant, and Rachel Faucett Lavien. He had one brother named James who was two years older than Hamilton.

Much of Hamilton's history is still unknown because he was an unlawfully born child. Hamilton's father, James Hamilton, had never done well in his business enterprises. When Hamilton was ten years old, his father had abandoned the family consisting of himself, his brother, and their mother, in an unknown place with no money. The family now opened a small shop to earn enough money to survive, and soon after Hamilton found a job being a clerk of Cruger and Beckman trading post since he had shown great talents as a clerk. Unfortunately, a year later Hamilton's mother died, and he with his brother fended for themselves. Luckily, Hamilton found friends who raised funds to send Hamilton to a grammar school of Elizabethtown, New Jersey in 1773. In 1774 with the strenuous studying from the previous year, he entered Kings College (which is now Columbia University). Throughout Alexander Hamilton's childhood,
