Gaizutis-1 America Besieged By Michael Gaizutis ""¦One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" (Commentary). Our nation has been attacked; but we will not be divided. We have been threatened, and remain in fear; but we will retaliate. Justice will prevail; and our nation will stand strong. Now is the time to contemplate solutions. As a United States Citizen, you are obligated to help your nation in unifying with your fellow citizens. You are also required to stay opinionated, remain perceptive, and without a doubt, offer to condole anyone in need. Along with condoling, you must also be reflecting on ways to help our nation continue to thrive. As a result, this nation of ours will continue to remain strong, and other countries will follow in our footsteps.

The act of terrorism that took place on the United States of America on September 11th, 2001, had everyone in a state of mass confusion.

Frightened, enraged, distressed, and violated, are just some of the words that come to mind when referring to the incidents that occurred. As a nation, we must now decide on what course of action needs to be taken in finding a solution to this act of terrorism. Many U.S. citizens feel that brutal force is the only answer to resolving this horrible situation. When doing an interview with Bryan Holmes, he stated that, "we should only go to war if that is our only option" (Holmes). Most fellow citizens agree with Bryan, and feel that a more subtle approach Gaizutis-2 be taken into consideration, before going to war. However, those who disagree with Bryan's perspective, not only feel that we should partake in the issue of brutal force, but we should also take immediate military action in resolving this dilemma.

Why did this terrorist act happen? Well, in order to answer this question, we must trace the origin of terrorism. Terrorism is known to us, as the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons. The general population reflects on terrorism as an act of hate, which only occurs as a means to receive attention. To the terrorist, however, it is just a way of getting a point across in a more dramatic manner. The main concern is that regardless of what anyone does, terrorism will never stop. So again, why did this terrorist act happen? Many believe it is just an act of hatred. However, those who do not, feel that terrorists in general try to attack a society in which conformity is the most predominant quality.

What is needed now, after such a traumatizing experience, is unification. "What's needed is a unified, unifying, Pearl Harbor sort of purple American fury- a ruthless indignation that doesn't leak away in a week or two, wandering off into Prozac-induced forgetfulness or into the next media sensation or into a corruptly thoughtful relativism" (Morrow Back Page). As a nation, we must come together collaborating on new ideas, and solutions, to reduce these horrible acts of terrorism. No act of terrorism in any situation is justifiable, and if it can't be abolished, it must be substantially reduced. With Gaizutis-3 unification in our nation, we will achieve a rudimentary, but yet successful level of utopia in our society. If we do not unify, we will best emulate how the terrorists expect us to act, and the severity of the ramifications that we will receive, will be an ultimate victory for the terrorists themselves.

It is in our own benefit, as a nation, to become more perceptive, and realize the potential for horrific terrorist attacks. We will retaliate against all terrorists. The United States of America will not stand for terrorism, and we will prevail above any form of it, which we encounter. If you knock down one of our buildings, we will just rebuild it. If you try to separate our family, and friend's, through any terroristic nature, you will fail. Our unification, as a nation, will frighten you away. The diverse community of this free country will eliminate any threat that attempts to intimidate, and coerce, our societies, or governments. We are a country that has been threatened, and even though we are in fear for our families, and friends, we will without a doubt, rise above this. Although America has been besieged, this nation of ours will continue to remain strong, and other countries will follow in our footsteps.
