The American Dream

While planning this project I thought about the American Dream and its meaning. I realized what made up the dream and how it has drastically changed over the past 50 years. Although the general ideas of the American dream were the same then and now, like freedom, wealth, power, equality and fame, they were based upon different measures. For example 50 years ago, the dream could be achieved by owning a home, a car, and a television. Today, it isn't uncommon to have a television and computer in every room. In the past each family usually had only one car at most and it was probably a very practical one like a station wagon. The newest study shows that there are now more cars on the road than drivers and just watch how many are luxury, gas-guzzling models. The basis of the "America dream" has stayed the same throughout history, but the means for measuring it will change with every generation.

My American Dream

1-Freedom-"Liberty of the person from slavery, detention, or oppression." Most people move to America for the freedoms we have. Being free is an American dream that everyone has, yet they take for granted. I agree that freedom should be an American dream because in many other places in the world they do not have these liberties.

2-Wealth-"An abundance of valuable material possessions or resources; riches." Being financially secure is also an American Dream. Not only do we have the freedom to go into whatever line of work we want to earn money, we can also become an instant millionaire by lottery or contest. Every American has the dream to be rich or have something better, and I agree that wealth is important to the American dream.

3-Power-"Of or relating to political, social, or economic control."...
