Taming Technology As society and technology progress hand in hand the dangers of technology, such as, the potential risks of damaging ourselves and our environment increase as well. Technology, as stated in ?Taming Technology? by Alvin Toffler, has revolutionized the way that we live our daily lives, whether it is in the form of new medicine, email, or the internet. However, he claims technology is potentially causing more and more complication in our social and environmental atmosphere. Toffler effectively relays his points by using a strong appeal to emotions, establishing alternate views then refuting them, and by using a myriad of expert opinion to add credibility to his evidence and ideas.

Toffler?s use of appealing to emotions strengthens his argument through a median of challenging social values and calling attention to short and long term safety issues created by technology. As technology progresses, the responsibilities that are accompanied with it grow as well.

Thus, it is society?s task to allocate these responsibilities properly. Without proper regulation, pollution of the basic resources of life will continue. If no action is taken, businesses will continue to only analyze the short term effects of products causing harsh realization in the future that these very products are harmful. DDT is a perfect example of how well businesses test their products before they are released to the market. At first look DDT, seemed harmless and extremely useful. However, it was not until years later that its damaging effects came to life .The risk of thermo pollution also goes unchecked by society. This ignorance may potentially lead to the destroying of an immense amounts of marine life and could eventually lead to the melting of the polar ice caps.
