IntroductionThe research paper I analyzed was titled When Technology Does Not Support Learning. This paper investigates the relationship of technology and the support of the learning process in the virtual classroom. The researcher's problem was stated that, "conceptions of learning, or epistemological beliefs may be in conflict with their perceptions of what the technology supports," (Hornik, S., Johnson, R., & Wu, Y., 2007).

Statement of hypothesisThe hypothesis statements were clearly outlined by researchers as: H1a, H1b, H2a, and H2b. Researchers investigated the method and result, based on friction, from business majors in a virtual classroom. "Friction will exist between an individuals' epistemological belief and their perception on the technology that supports learning," (Hornik, S., Johnson, R., & Wu, Y., 2007). Epistemology is a branch of philosophy that investigates the origin, nature, methods, and limits of human knowledge, (American Heritage, 2000).

H1a: When there is congruence between a user's epistemological beliefs and beliefs about the learning model supported by the technology, the user will communicate to a greater extent than when there is friction, (Hornik, S.,

Johnson, R., & Wu, Y., 2007).

H1b: When there is congruence between a user's epistemological beliefs and beliefs about the learning model supported by the technology, the user will perceive greater social presence than when there is friction, (Hornik, S., Johnson, R., & Wu, Y., 2007).

H2a: When there is congruence between a user's epistemological beliefs and beliefs about the learning model supported by the technology, the user will be more satisfied than when there is friction, (Hornik, S., Johnson, R., & Wu, Y., 2007).

H2b: When there is congruence between a user's epistemological beliefs and beliefs about the learning model supported by the technology, the user will perform better than when there is friction, (Hornik, S., Johnson, R., & Wu, Y., 2007).
