Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer is a fantasy book. Artemis Fowl is a 12 year-old boy who is a pure genius and his favorite possession is gold. When Artemis's father returns from prison, he is a totally different man and makes Artemis Fowl promise to give up crime. As much as Artemis doesn't want to, he promises but only after he does one more task. He invents the C Cube using fairy technology (50 years ahead of human technology) which is the most powerful minicomputer in the world. He wants to sell it for gold and he meets a clever man, Jon Spiro, who is willing to do so. But, he has set up a trap and he steals the C Cube and hurts Butler, his bodyguard. Artemis Fowl must retrieve this weapon before it's too late.

The setting rotates between London, Ireland, Chicago and the underworld (where the fairies live).

The start of the book is in Ireland where Jon Spiro steals the C Cube and then it shifts to Chicago where Artemis has to take back his minicomputer. London is used for just temporary action. This is meant to give the book an international feeling so it is around the world and not just in one spot.

The conflict starts right at the beginning of the book when Artemis Fowl sets up a meeting at a seafood restaurant with Jon Spiro to sell his super computer for lots of gold. Jon Spiro sets him up by giving all the waitresses weapons and threatening Artemis's life unless he gives the C Cube to him. Butler gets shot because he attacks. Artemis then had to revive Butler and to find Jon Spiro before he found out of fairies and where they live. This type of conflict...
