Article Rebuttal

The article I chose for rebuttal was on "Gun Control", specifically "Do More Guns Mean More Deaths and Injuries?" The article was written by an interested party, The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, which is was formerly known as Handgun Control Inc. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence says "when the civilian population has more access to guns, more teens and children die from gun wounds" (Brady Reports). This is a scare tactic and they back this data up by making a comparison between the United States and Great Britain. The fact of the matter is, that deaths from gunshot wounds have been on the decline over the past few years (Gun Deaths Declining Among U.S.

Teens, Young Adults). The Brady Center article goes on to state that the 2nd amendment does not guarantee law abiding American citizens the right to own firearms. They try to back this up by twisting the amendments wording around to suit their own needs. This could not be further from the truth because the Supreme Court has ruled just the opposite in several cases and just recently ruled to extend guns rights in every state and city (supreme court gun case what does it mean). The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence says their aim is to help pass, enforce, and protect sensible laws and policies that address gun violence at federal and state levels. The reality of it though, is that The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence has the same interest as it did when it was formerly known as Handgun Control Inc. (Brady Campaign to Prevent...
