Bad Habits on the Boob Tube

A major topic of conversation nowadays is, does violence on television cause children to behave in violent ways? Soon after I started this paper, I come to realize that it wasn't going to be easy. But in the following essay I will point out the different positions that can be taken on this topic, and I will give my point of view on the affects of violent television has on children.

The first point that I am going to point out is that, without a doubt, violence on television increases the chances that a child will behave in a violent manner. For example, television's teen Rangers kick, punch and knock out bad guys like non other. The show that i am talking about is called "The Mighty Morphin Power Ranger" Particia Chrisholm is a author of a article called "Power to the people." Particia talks about the heated up debate over the affects that the kids show "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" has on children.

According to this article, the "helmeted lycra covered Rangers" act as a bad influence on children. Many parents have to realize that their children try to act like the teen hero's. One concerned mother went so far as to petition the CRTC. The CRTC responded by saying that "the show is extremely to violent."(Chisholm 1994 p.52). As a result of the petition, many stations voluntarliy refused to air this types of shows to kids. This case shows the power that people can have over the CRTC. Unfortunatley, parents are not able to shield their children from violent show like "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."
